6.25% Pentagon Federal Credit Union 3,4,5, & 7 Year Share Certificates

Pentagon Federal Credit Union is offering 6.25% apy on 3, 4, 5, & 7 year share certificates. The minimum required deposit for these certificates is $1,000. These are the highest rates available to everyone in the country that I have seen advertised.

Thanks very much to the friend of the site that tipped me off to this rate offering a couple of weeks ago. If you've found a credit union deal you'd like to share, you can leave a comment on the Hot Tips link.

Field of membership in Pentagon Federal Credit Union is offered to members of a large number of select organizations. If you dont qualify for membership through any of these organizations, you can become eligible for membership in Pentagon Federal Credit Union by virtue of membership in the National Military Family Association for $20.

I guess this is the comment page. I just signed up for MFNA in order to qualify for Penagon FCU. But I'm wondering why their ranking dropped to 3 stars. Is this average or does it mean problems?

Which rating system are you using? Bauerfinancial gives them a five star rating.

I'm preparing to join NMFA to qualify for investing in PFCU but want to know first whether their CD's are FDIC insured. Can you tell me?

Pentagon Federal Credit Union is insured by the NCUA. They are the federal agency that insures most credit unions. Money insured by the NCUA is backed with the full faith and credit of the United States Federal Government. There's more information about NCUA share insurance listed on this government website - ncua.gov/ShareInsurance/index.htm.

Just saw the 5 star bauerfinancial rating. the bankrate rating is based on lower than standard capitalization and lower than average liquidity, but it said that reserves and % of bad loans was better than average. I wonder if economic hardship for those in Iraq for a long time might eventually affect them, or if their customers are so broadly based it wouldnt cause concern. hesh
